Granbury Texas, Voted Best small Historic Town in America!

Granbury Texas or Hood County, as the locals refer to it, is a quaint, small town in North Texas, located about 30 minutes southwest of Fort Worth and about an hour from Dallas which makes it a great tourist destination for many people from the DFW area.  Granbury has also been voted the best small Historic Town in America by USA Today for three years in a row.

To accommodate our weekend travelers, Granbury has a lot of Bed and Breakfast, National Brand and Boutique Hotels and vacation rentals. In the center of it all sits our Historic Town Square in downtown Granbury, which is the highlight and heart of the town. Everything revolves around the Historic Square.  Visit most any weekend of the year and we will have a festival or celebration of some kind.  Whether it is an art festival, wine walk, holiday event, BBQ & bean cook off, Christmas & 4th of July parades, you name it we probably have it! If not, suggest it, and we will probably add it.

The Historic Granbury Square has so many great things such as great shopping, casual and fine dining, wineries, art galleries, soak up the local history as well as enjoy several entertainment venues.  Some of the shops on the square are boutique clothing stores, the pan handle, which is an upscale cooking store, the silver saddle saloon which sells ice cream that you can add a little kick to as well as and many great decor shops. Don't miss shopping just off the square. There are a lot of really great antique shops which Granbury has really become known for and most you can easily walk to. Witherspoons and Javelinas are two of the most popular on Pearl St. across from the City Beach. Then we have more traditional shopping such as Home Goods, Tuesday Morning, Marshalls, Ross, Big Lots and much more.

Granbury has two entertainment venues, The new Granbury Live which features tribute concerts and entertainers such as Little Texas and Janie Fricke. We also have the Granbury Opera House is a theater that offers plays such as the Sound of Music, Shrek, The Nutcracker and tribute bands such as the Eagles, Journey or Fleetwood Mac.  But don't miss out on our ghost tours as well. Most weekend nights you can catch a tour around the square and even purchase a book on all the sightings over the years. And you will also hear about the legend of John Wilkes Booth and his ties to Granbury.

Granbury is also a Lake community on the Brazos River where Lake Granbury meanders right through the center of town and it is enjoyed year round by everyone but especially the fisherman and kayakers.  In the summer months you will see lots of boaters, water skiers, paddle boards and a lot of pontoon boats riding around with family and friends enjoying the lake.  There are several restaurants on the lake where you can grab a burger or fish taco while dining on the lake.  One of the local favorite restaurants is Stumpy's. You can drive right up on your boat or jet ski to grab a bite to eat and get right back on the lake.  It has great food, deserts and shopping all in one!  Get there early, it’s usually busy but have some free chips and salsa or enjoy shopping at their adorable boutique shop while you wait. You're sure to buy a cute dress, Consuela bag or a cute pair of earrings before you leave and all at a very affordable price.

A few of our newest additions to Lake Granbury is the City Beach, which is in the center of town.  It has a small water feature for the little ones, a few pavilions with picnic tables to get out of the sun and a place to grab a bite or rent a kayak.  It’s a great, safe outdoor activity to just put your feet in the sand, soak up the sun or cool off with a dip in the lake. Another great addition, just across the street from the city beach is the legends hike and bike trail that meanders through downtown. There are several points for you to jump on the trail but it goes for several miles. Some of the points of interest include walking, along the river, through pretty neighborhoods, the railroad tracks and all the way down to the ball fields and Granbury High School. It's so nice and relaxing to have another way to enjoy our wonderful town. Granbury is a great place to come and enjoy for the day, a weekend getaway or stay but there’s a good chance you’ll fall in love with it and want to stay for a lifetime!
